Migri's official study material is published around the turn of the year 2026/2027. Until then, the course is built on public sources, such as Finnish law and official information, and we update it against Migri's material when it comes. The lessons are our own texts, written in our own words. The course is independent of Migri and the University of Helsinki.
How the course is structured
Every chapter has three parts: lessons that explain the chapter in plain language, practice questions with explanations and sources, and a list of difficult words. The chapter pages below are free to read without an account, and they are in English. With a free account you can also study all of chapter 1, with the lessons and the questions. The mock test
According to Migri, the citizenship test has multiple-choice questions and is taken on a computer in Finnish or Swedish. The number of questions, the test time and the pass mark have not been published. The mock test in the course is therefore our own format: multiple-choice questions mixed from all 9 chapters, with a timer and a result per chapter so that you see what you need to revise.
When Migri publishes the format of the test, we will change the mock test and write the date. The questions are our own, not the test's. The mock test shows how many correct answers you have, not whether you would have passed the test.
Difficult words
The test is taken in Finnish or Swedish, so the words matter as much as the facts. That is why every chapter has a list of difficult words, explained in everyday words, with the Finnish word and its meaning in English.
The words are on the free chapter pages and in the lessons, and in the glossary.
What is not included
- Official test questions. The test questions are made by the University of Helsinki and are not public.
- A guarantee of passing. The test is organised by Migri.
- Registration for the test. Migri will publish the test dates and how to register by the turn of the year 2026/2027 at the latest.
- Knowledge of Finnish or Swedish. The language requirement for citizenship is separate, and the course does not cover it.
